EMS: an innovative, in-house developed tool

EMS

Our in-house developed EMS (Equipment Maintenance System) tool implements the maintenance policy and automatically directs the maintenance cycle. It significantly increases the safety, availability, value retention and cost efficiency of electromechanical equipment. And in addition, EMS allows for demand-based warehousing and reduced costs. EMS has already been successfully installed in the cantons of Aargau, Basel Land, Basel City, Bern, Lucerne and Thurgau for maintenance of the cantonal road network. We are currently putting together an operating concept for the Swiss National Road Authority (ASTRA) for a national equipment management system (EMS-CH).

EMS in maintenance planning

EMS supports the maintenance policy established by the equipment operator and optimizes maintenance activities. The maintenance policy can be flexibly adjusted based on risk analyses or through the operating and safety information gathered by EMS. For example, a realignment of priorities for dealing with emergency systems can be quickly and efficiently put into place.

EMS in work scheduling and warehouse logistics

EMS creates work schedules based on the maintenance cycle and displays the required replacement parts inventory. In doing so, EMS optimizes the storing of replacement parts as well as personnel resources. In addition, plant utilization statistics allow it to schedule maintenance work-related interruptions of plant operations to take place during slack periods. This significantly increases the availability and cost efficiency of electromechanical equipment.

EMS for reporting and accounting

The EMS system automatically registers work performed and replacement parts used. Automatically generated reports allow for efficient accounting and an overview of all work performed. Information stored in conventional databases allows for customer-specific assessment – quickly and easily.

Uplans: EMS add-on for automatic condition assessment

Uplans is an additional function that uses EMS data to provide a condition assessment for the entire plant. The assessment is above all useful for long-term investment planning, and allows better prioritization for budget planning and investments.

EMS enhances value in all industries

EMS has to date been used primarily in infrastructure management for roads. But EMS can deliver the same value in other industries or applications. Wherever a large infrastructure needs to be maintained, EMS can reduce costs and increase reliability.

EMS at a glance

EMS makes it possible to provide components with

  • a maintenance policy
  • a duty roster

in addition

  • EMS plans periodic maintenance activities
  • EMS provides assessments easily and quickly
  • EMS assigns maintenance tasks to staff members
  • EMS compiles reports on the work done
  • EMS generates ordering lists for required spare parts
  • EMS calculates maintenance plans for future activities
